What if the part of yourself you keep trying to change…
…is actually the part that has been trying to protect you all along?
The part that keeps overthinking. That keeps pleasing people. That makes itself small. That can’t relax.
That doesn’t trust anyone. That struggles to receive. That knows exactly what it wants to say, but
swallows the words anyway.
Maybe you’ve tried to change these patterns for years. Tried to understand them. Analyze them. Talk
about them. Promised yourself it would be better next time. And still you keep ending up in the
same place.
Not because you’re failing. But because some patterns sit deeper than conscious thought. They live in
the way your body reacts. In the beliefs you learned. In the emotions you never got the space to
fully feel. In the protection strategies you developed long before you consciously chose them.
What if you stopped fighting yourself?
Compassionate Breathwork
Compassionate Breathwork is a new breathwork series I’m developing around one simple idea: you don’t
have to fight the parts of yourself you want to change. You can meet them. Listen to them.
Understand them. And offer them something different.
We combine conscious connected breathwork with guided inner work,
visualization, self compassion and forgiveness. The breath helps you move from thinking about your
patterns to actually feeling what’s happening inside. And instead of pushing that experience
away, we approach it with compassion, not as positive affirmation, not as pretending
everything is fine, but as a new way of relating to the parts of yourself that carry an old story.
Why compassion?
Most of us are far better at motivating ourselves through pressure than through kindness. We know how
to push, perform, improve, criticize ourselves until things get better. But what happens when the
thing that needs to change also feels threatened by change? Self compassion offers a different
route.
There is growing research linking self compassion to lower stress and fewer psychological symptoms. A
2025 systematic review points to processes like rumination, avoidance, and mindfulness as possible
explanations for this link. A 2023 meta analysis of 56 randomized studies found small to
medium effects of self compassion interventions on depression, anxiety, and stress, with the
caveat that the research field still has limitations.
Breathwork adds another layer. Research on breathing practices points to possible benefits for stress
and anxiety. At the same time, breathwork research is still developing, so this is not a
promise of a miracle cure. What interests me is what happens when we bring these approaches
together: breath + body + emotion + compassion + awareness. Not just thinking differently. Not
just breathing differently. But learning to relate to yourself differently.
The six journeys
Each session explores one theme and stands completely on its own; you don’t need to do all
six. Choose what speaks to you now, or move through the whole journey: from safety, to
self worth, visibility, your voice, receiving, and finally aliveness.
01 · Theme
It Is Safe To Be In My Body
From survival to safety. On hypervigilance, rumination, control, tension, and the difficulty of truly letting go.
We start by arriving in the body and exploring that week’s theme. From there we move into
conscious connected breathwork. During the breath session I guide you through carefully built
compassion, forgiveness, visualization, and inner parts work.
Feel and slow down
Some words land deeply right away. Others don’t. You might experience emotion, memories, physical
sensations, resistance, relief, or insight; or your experience might be very still instead.
There is nothing to perform, nothing you have to force. When something lands, we slow down. We
breathe. We feel. We stay.
Let go and integrate
After the active breathwork you get to fully let go and receive. We close the journey with a sound
healing, giving the body time to settle and integrate. Afterward there is space for a sharing
circle; sharing is always optional.
Who is this for?
You understand your patterns intellectually, but still feel them in your body.
You spend a lot of time in your head, overthinking.
You find it hard to truly relax.
You feel disconnected from yourself.
You struggle to set boundaries without guilt.
You are hard on yourself.
You carry shame about parts of yourself or your past.
There is grief you’ve never really had space for.
You long for deeper connection, but also protect yourself from it.
You’re tired of constantly trying to “fix” yourself.
Or maybe one of the six themes above woke something in you that said: “That
is mine.” Start there.
One session, or the whole journey
Each session is a complete experience on its own. You don’t need to follow the whole series;
choose the theme that feels most relevant right now. Or move through all six as a deeper
process: body, self worth, visibility, your voice, receiving, aliveness. If you book all six, you
pay for five.
Stop fighting yourself. Start listening.
Frequently asked
What is Compassionate Breathwork, exactly?+
A six part breathwork journey combining conscious connected breathwork with guided inner work, visualization, self compassion and forgiveness. Each of the six sessions explores one theme: from safety in your body, to finding your voice, to receiving.
Do I need to attend all six sessions?+
No. Each session stands on its own, so you can book individual themes that speak to you. If you book all six, you pay for five.
What’s the difference between the live session in Amsterdam and the online session?+
The live sessions are Wednesday evenings from 19:45 to 22:30 in Amsterdam, in a small group of up to 8 people. The online sessions are Thursday mornings at 10:30 and are recorded, so you can watch the recording later if you can’t join live.
What does a session or the full series cost?+
You’ll find the current price per session and the package offer (book 6, pay for 5) with each date on Hipsy; that’s also where you book and pay directly.
Do I need breathwork experience?+
Compassionate Breathwork works with conscious connected breathwork, the same breath technique I use in one on one sessions. Experience isn’t required; a willingness to feel what comes up is.
Are there contraindications?+
Yes. Please do not book if you are pregnant; have unmanaged high blood pressure, cardiovascular conditions, glaucoma, or recent surgery; have severe asthma or respiratory disease; or have a history of seizures, panic disorder, or psychosis. When in doubt, talk to your doctor first and tell me anything relevant beforehand.
Where in Amsterdam does the live session take place?+
You’ll receive the exact location when you register via Hipsy.
